“Who Would Provide Maintenance To A Women If His Husband Goes Jail”, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi Opposes Triple Talaq

Mumbai: AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi lambasted over Triple Talaq targeting Modi government says the Centre wants to criminalise triple talaq when the Supreme Court has decriminalised homosexuality.

“You have said in the bill that if a man gives Triple Talak to his wife, then the marriage of the couple is legal, if you give your wife a triple talaq, then you have proposed a three-year jail for the man. Who would give maintenance to the woman when her husband is in jail? Should she still wait for her husband to come out of jail?”

“The Supreme Court has reduced homosexuality, adultery and you are going to criminalize triple talaq, you are making a new India! The Supreme Court has even said that the immediate triple locker is invalid. You are punished! You are expecting the woman to keep waiting for three years until the husband comes out of jail,” he added.

Meanwhile, in reply to Owaisi BJP MP Poonam Mahajan asked if Asaduddin Owaisi would congratulate if someone gives triple talaq to his wife or daughter over a phone call.”

“The bill is for those who have been given triple talaq over WhatsApp messages and phone calls. We have heard stories on Muslim women have been given triple talaq over salt in food and over her teeth,” she said.

Advancing the bill for consideration on Thursday, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that law is very necessary for gender equality and justice because, after the judgment of the Supreme Court of August 2017, the practice of immediate triple talaq has been banned, women are being divorced by ‘talaq-e-biddat’.
