Man Arrested For Spreading Fake News About Terror Attacks

Mumbai: A 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for spreading false information that there will be terror strikes in the major cities during the upcoming Ganesh Festival. The accused as been identified as Prasad Pradip Rasal a resident from Pune.

Rasal had come to Mumbai for some work from Pune and had approached the Vile parle police station with a tip about some terror attacks in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur and Nagpur. Allegedly he had heard a conversation of three people about the attacks. He said that they were talking in Hindi and Urdu.

Since the information was delicate, search parties were sent out to find the suspects and an alert was put in the cities. Considering that the information was false, they were never found. The police then started questioning Prasad and some discrepancies came up. He ultimately admitted that the information was incorrect and he did this to spread fear among people.

During his interrogation, he said that he had recently lost a fortune in business and was in a financial crisis. He was depressed and decided to spread the fake news to terrorize people. He was arrested under IPC sections 55, 177 and 182 and produced before the court which remanded him in police custody till Friday.
