Worst Of Coronavirus Yet To come, Many People Still Don’t Understand The Virus: WHO

Mumbai: The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has called for national unity and global solidarity to fight the outbreak of coronovirus, saying that the worst of the coronovirus epidemic is still ahead.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adholm Ghebayeus said during a briefing, “Trust us. The worst is yet ahead of us. Let’s prevent this tragedy. It’s a virus that many people still don’t understand.”

The pandemic has wreaked havoc around the world by infecting around 2.5 million people and killing more than 1,70,000 people in 193 countries and territories since the first epidemic hit China in December last year.

Referring to the most affected countries such as the United States and Italy, the WHO chief said that many countries, even the very developed ones, are drawing wrong conclusions because they were not aware of the severity of the epidemic and got into trouble.

Further, he states that the global community has to take the virus as “a common enemy for humanity” so that it can be avoided.“Please let’s consider those who are dying as individuals, they are not numbers or figures. Even one life is precious,” Tedros said.

Tedros said COVID-19 is a “dangerous combination,” comparing it to the Spanish flu in 1918.

“This is happening in a hundred years for the first time again, like the 1918 flu that killed up to 100 million people. But now we have the technology, we can prevent that disaster, we can prevent that kind of crisis,” he said.
