Wrestler Ritika Phogat, Geeta Phogat’s Cousin, Commits Suicide After Losing A Wrestling Match

Mumbai: Geeta Phogat’s cousin sister Ritika Phogat allegedly committed suicide on Monday after losing a final match in a wrestling tournament.

She was found dead at the home of her uncle and legendary wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat late Monday.

Wrestler Geeta Phogat took to Twitter to condole the demise of her 17-year-old cousin Ritika Phogat, who died by suicide after losing a wrestling match.

“Ritika was a very promising wrestler, I do not know why she took such a step. Winning and losing is a part of a player’s life. We should not take any such step.”

According to media reports, 17-year-old Ritika Phogat was believed to be upset over losing in the finals of the wrestling tournament. He anticipated a state-level competition in Bharatpur, Rajasthan from March 12 to 14.

Ritika trained with Dronacharya Award winner Mahavir Phogat, who runs a sports academy. Geeta Phogat’s post reflected the shock and sorrow of the family.
