CWC Is Likely To Hold Meeting To Decide New President

Mumbai: According to media reports after Rahul Gandhi’s resignation Congress Working Committee is likely to hold a meeting to decide on a new president.

Party sources said that Congress leaders are discussing to find Gandhi’s suitable replacement. However, they have yet to reach any conclusion.

Sources said that to decide the date for the next meeting of the party’s top decision-making body CWC, six senior party leaders will sit together soon.

A CWC member said, “The process for the selection of the new president will start soon. Congress can not live without its president for a long time.”

The leader denied any possibility of withdrawing his decision to step down from Rahul Gandhi’s post.

Sources said that along with the rich experience of Congress, an interim president of Indian politics will be appointed unless a new President is elected.

After Rahul Gandhi’s decision to leave the post in the CWC meeting on May 25, two days after the results were announced, the Congress is facing a leadership crisis.

Since then, he had been insisting on not withdrawing his decision despite several senior party leaders trying to persuade him to lead the party.

Congress put a dismal showing the recent Lok Sabha polls with winning a meager 52 out of total 542 Lok Sabha seats.
