Mumbai: At least 22 Israelis have been killed and over 500 others have been injured as Hamas launched an attack in the country. A Hamas commander had claimed that the militant group launched 5,000 rockets on the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said “we are at war” as the country hit Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
“The IDF declares a state of alert for war. Over the past hour, the Hamas terrorist organization launched massive barrages of rockets from Gaza into Israel, and its terrorist operatives have infiltrated into Israel in a number of different locations in the south,” according to the IDF.
“Civilians in southern and central Israel must remain near shelters, and in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip, inside shelters. The Chief of the General staff is currently conducting a situational assessment and approving plans for the IDF’s continued activity. The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible for these attacks and will face consequences for them,” the IDF continued.
According to the IDF, Palestinian militants launched at least 2,200 rockets at Israel. Hamas asserted that at least 5,000 missiles had been launched, all of which had landed in southern and central Israel.
According to the Reuters news agency, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas claims that his people have the right to defend themselves against the “terror of settlers and occupation troops”.
