3 More RS MPs Suspended, Taking Total Number Of Suspended MPs In Parliament To 27

Mumbai: Three more Rajya Sabha MPs, including AAP MPs Sushil Kumar Gupta, Sandeep Pathak and Independent MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, were suspended on Thursday for the remainder of this week for disrupting House proceedings, Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh said.

A total of 27 MPs – 23 from Rajya Sabha and 4 from Lok Sabha – have been suspended for indecent behaviour, misconduct and sloganeering during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. While the 23 Rajya Sabha MPs belonging to various parties have been suspended for this week only, the Lok Sabha Congress MPs have been suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon Session.

The development came to light when 20 Rajya Sabha MPs, who were suspended from the House till yesterday, began a 50-hour relay protest near the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex. Some of them spent the night at the protest site.

The suspended MPs refused to apologise, saying they had done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament were disrupted today as the opposition raised a ruckus over the suspension of MPs and other issues including GST rate hike and price hike.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s objectionable reference to President Draupadi Murmu as President also caused a huge uproar in both houses.

While the Rajya Sabha has now been adjourned till 2 pm, the Lok Sabha will not reconvene until 4 pm today.
