9 Out Of 12 Indian Released By Iran, Held From Detained Ship

Mumbai: In a recent development, Nine out of 12 Indians who were on board the ship MT Riah that was detained by Iran have been released.  

The Panama-flagged MT Riah was seized by Iranian authorities in the Strait of Hormuz on July 14.

Meanwhile, 21 Indians are still interned in Iran – three from MT Riah and 18 from Stena Impero, British oil tanker who was caught last week for alleged violation of international maritime rules. Indian Embassy on Thursday gave consular access to 18 Indians who were boarding the import.

Apart from this, members of the 24 Indian crew, who were aboard Shipping ‘Grace 1’, who were detained by Gibraltar’s police officers, are also detained. The Iranian oil tanker 1 Grace 1 ‘was confiscated from the British Marine and Gibraltar Police in the Spanish coast earlier this month.

Notably, boats have been seized between the ongoing tension between Iran and the United States, as Washington has started re-applying sanctions on Tehran.

A spokesman Ravi Kumar said in a media briefing in Delhi that India had sought consular access, which was given on Wednesday and the three-member team met all 24 crew members.

“What we saw was that the crew members were very quiet, very calm and they had no sense of panic, they were in regular contact with their family members. We assured them that the Indian government He will take all necessary steps to ensure their immediate release and repatriation, “said Kumar.
