Hathras Victim Cremated Late At Night To Avoid Violence In Morning: UP To Supreme Court

Mumbai: The BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court over the Hathras gang-rape incident, stating that the apex court should direct a CBI probe into the case for, “independent and impartial investigation”.

In his affidavit, the Yogi Adityanath government also requested the apex court to oversee the CBI probe into the case, alleging that “vested interests are trying to derail the impartial inquiry”.

A “vicious campaign” has been launched to discredit the state government, the affidavit elaborated, the investigation conducted so far in the case.

The affidavit further states that the district administration, citing intelligence input from a possible assembly of millions of protesters, persuaded the deceased’s parents to perform the last rites at night to avoid mass violence.

“The district administration decided to convince the parents of the victim with all the religious rites at night to avoid mass violence in the morning. Once the post-mortem of the deceased victim was already done at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, one cannot go to any part with any bad intentions, because of the political violent situation resulting from planned caste divide by certain vested interests,” the affidavit said.
