After Marathon Hearing, Five Supreme Court Judges To Hold Talks On Ayodhya

Mumbai: On Wednesday members of a five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court will sit in a ‘closed-door meeting’ today in their chambers after marathon hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case concluded today.

A notice in this regard has been issued by the Supreme Court stating that CJI Ranjan Gogoi and four other judges – SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazar – sit in the Chamber, in which any party involved will not be allowed.

As per the news agency PTI report, the notice stated that on Thursday 17 October, the Chief Justice, Justice SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazir will sit in the Chambers.

The bench has allowed the parties three days to contest the election by filing a written note on the “casting of relief” or mitigating the issues on which the court is required to decide.

According to reports, the court-appointed arbitration panel, meanwhile, informed the Supreme Court that the Muslim parties had agreed to waive their claim on the land. Among the parties who allegedly signed the agreement were Sunni Waqf Board, Nirvani Akhara, Nirmohi Ani’s representatives, Hindu Mahasabha and Ram Janmasthan Punudhar Committee.

The 40-day hearing concluded on Wednesday and the Supreme Court reserved its verdict is a politically sensitive matter. Wednesday saw the heated debate between Hindu and Muslim petitioners throughout the day.

In the first half, the Hindu side demanded from the apex court that a violent reaction from the Muslim side was witnessed in the second half of the hearing to rectify the historic mistake of building the mosque at the place where Lord Rama was born.
