After Moosewala’s Murder, Punjab Govt To Restore Security Cover Of 400 VVIPs From June 7

Mumbai: Punjab government on Thursday told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it will restore the security cover of over 420 VVIPs from June 7.

This comes after singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa on Sunday, a day after the state government had withdrawn the security cover of 424 VVIPs in Punjab with immediate effect.

The decision was conveyed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on June 2, which had asked the Bhagwant Mann-led government to explain the reason behind the reduction in security cover.

The state government told the high court that the security provided to VVIPs has been curtailed ahead of the 38th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, to be observed on June 6.

The high court, hearing a plea by former deputy chief minister and Congress leader Om Prakash Soni, had also asked the government to disclose how many “protected” names were released in the public domain.

The Twitter handle of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the state came under criticism after it shared a picture on May 28, in which Moose Wala’s name was among those whose police security was cut off. The next day on May 29, the 29-year-old singer was murdered in Mansa.
