Ahmedabad Zoo, Lakefront, Gardens Closed Over Rising COVID Cases

Mumbai: The Ahmedabad civic body on Wednesday announced the closure of the city zoo, lakefront and all public gardens from March 18 “till further orders” owing to the rising COVID-19 cases in the city.

On Tuesday, 241 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the city, a sharp increase from 40 cases a month earlier on 16 February.

According to official figures, the COVID -19 tally has increased to 60,992 in the city.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said in a release, “It has been decided to close all the parks, Kankaria lakefront, zoo etc from March 18 till further orders in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The Gujarat government on Tuesday extended the night curfew deadline by two hours in Ahmedabad and three other major cities – Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.

Now the curfew will remain in force from 10 pm to 6 am to 31 March, instead of the previous time from 12 am to 6 am.

As of Tuesday, the city had 60 ‘micro-containment’ areas (where several COVID-19 cases have been found), the civic body said.

So far 2,269 people have died due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad, while 58,043 have recovered from the disease. Ahmedabad has so far reported 2,269 deaths due to Covid-19, while 58,043 have recovered from the disease.

The Covid-19 recovery rate in the city stood at 95.3 per cent, as per the civic body.
