Anirban Lahiri Opens With A Creditable One – Under Valspar Championships

Mumbai: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri, sitting with a tie at the 28th place in the $ 6.7 million Walsh Championship, with a credible 70-under-first round in the first round.

Lahiri had a tough time this season and is four shots behind from the Austrian Sepp Straka and Joel Dahman of the US.

The scoring was not easy with only 44 players in the field going under par.

Lahiri, who has played the event in the past, said, “It was a decent start on a fair but demanding Copperhead course. One needs to keep the momentum going.”

Denny McCarthy, Roberto Castro, Brian Stuard, Keegan Bradley, and Shawn Stefani are tied for sixth at 3-under.

Indian-American Akshay Bhatia, 17, who is the only amateur on the field, opened with 3-over 74. They are competing at their first PGA Tour event on sponsor discounts.
