Assam NRC: Nearly One Lakh People To File Claims To Prove Citizenship
- Assam added names of 1,02,462 persons to the draft National Register of Citizens.
- Forty lakh people were left out in the draft.
- The NRC in Assam is being updated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court and the final list is scheduled to be released on July 31.
Mumbai: A fresh exclusion list has been published by Assam adding names of 1,02,462 persons to the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Those people names appear in the Additional Exclusion list are those who were involved in the NRC draft published on July 30 last year but were later found ineligible.
According to a statement issued by the State Coordinator of NRC, the list has been published according to the provisions of the citizenship schedule (registration of citizens and issuance of national identity card) Rule 2003, as per the provisions of section 5.
“In the additional Draft Exclusion list, the results of the claimants and objections will not be included for the hearing conducted for disposal of claims and objections during the period from 15 February 2019 to 26th June, 2019. The results of those hearings will be published only in the final NRC. Will be published on July 31, 2019.
The hard copy of the additional draft exclusion list, which starts from 10 am on June 26, 2019, will be available to the public in the offices of the NRC Services Centers (NSK), Deputy Commissioner / SDO (Civil) / Circle Officer.”
Those peoples names have been excluded from the additional list will be notified individually through the letter (LOI), which will be distributed to them at their residential address. These people will have the opportunity to register their claims in the designated NRC service centres (NSKs) till July 11.
Their claims will be disposed of thereafter before the publication of the final National Register of Citizens on July 31.
The draft published on July 30, 2018, included the names of 2.9 crore people out of total applications of 3.29 crore. Forty lakh people were left out in the draft.
