Govt Supressing Media: Congress Leader In Lok Sabha

Mumbai: Accusing the ruling party BJP and Narendra Modi, Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the government is using “suppressive” tactics against the media.

During the Zero Hour, he alleged that the government was “undemocratic” and was suffering from “megalomania”, claiming that he used his advertising measures to put pressure on the media.

In the meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla asked the next member to raise his issue during Zero Hour, which prompted the members of the Congress to protest because Chowdhury wanted to talk further.

In addition to other issues, Manish Tewari of Congress asked to clarify government stand on the US decision to withdraw its exemption from India to import crude oil, it could have a far-reaching effect on India and it will increase oil prices of products.

Will the government continue to import oil from Iran or not, he asked.

Meantime, BJP’s Nihal Chand targeted the Congress government in Rajasthan over the suicide of a farmer in the state. In a video message, the farmer blamed the state government for his decision.

The government should ensure action, he said.
