BJP Pulled Up Opposition On Questioning The Credibility Of The EVM, Asked To Give Up With Grace

Mumbai: Attacking opposition parties about EVM, BJP has said that if they vote for bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi back to power then they should accept their defeat.

Party leader and law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that EVMs were okay when leaders like Mamta Banerjee, N. Chandrababu Naidu and Amarinder Singh win elections and come to power, but when Modi comes, machines become unbelievable.

“EVM is good when Mamata Banerjee twice becomes Chief Minister of West Bengal and Amarinder Singh becomes Chief Minister of Punjab. If she wins, EVM is good but when we hope we will win because people of this country want Narendra Modi Prime Minister Become again, EVM is unbelievable.”

He said, “BJP condemns their (opposition) conduct and will accept their defeat with humility.”

“EVMs are trustworthy when they win, as they did in the state elections recently, but when they lose, they become doubtful. Their selective belief in EVM is hypocritical and mischievous,” BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao said.

He said, “His harsh attempts to deny the BJP’s mandate are an insult to Indian democracy. The opposition parties seem to be very small in their condemnation, not in their defeat.”

Prior to the counting of votes in the Lok Sabha elections, beginning May 23, the leaders of 22 opposition parties met the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday and demanded verification of VVPAT slips of the randomly selected polling booths.
