Boycott McDonald’s After They Said They Serve Halal Food

Mumbai: After one of the largest Food Chain, McDonald’s India declared that they served Halal, there the netizens backlashed on McDonald’s India by saying that if they start serving Halal food in the restaurants they had to sell Jhatka meat as well. Thus, this flared up the long-drawn conflict between the Jhatka and Halal food.

One of the customers asked the McDonald’s India outlet if they served Halal food in their restaurants, they replied by saying yes and since then the #boycottMcDonalds is trending online. Similarly, in the month of July of this year, Zomato commented that food has no religion. After which a netizen asked, “If food had no religion then why did you tag certain hotels as Halal oriented.”

A twitter user tweeted asking if the McDonald’s was halal certified. The food chain replied to this query almost immediately by saying that all of the McDonald restaurants in India are Halal certified. The tweet said, “The meat that we use across our restaurants is of the highest quality and is sourced from government approved suppliers who are HACCP certified.”

The further said, “All our restaurants have Halal certificate. You can ask the respective restaurant manager to show you the certificate for your satisfaction and confirmation.”

This tweet appeared to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu/ Sikh netizens, many criticized by saying that by catering to the needs of 15% of India’s population the restaurant was letting down 80% of its customer. One twitter user also said that Halal meat is obtained by harassing animals while jhatka meat is when the animal is killed in one slash of a weapon without tormenting the animal and that the restaurants should be able to decipher between Jhatka and Halal and make Jhatka food available for the Sikhs.

Some even went to quote that the McDonald’s India was forcing the Hindus to eat the Halal Food and called it as Tyranny of Minortism.
