BWF World Tour Finals: PV Sindhu Loses To Pornpawee Chochuwong In Final Group Match

Mumbai: Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu lost her third and final Group A game in the women’s singles section of the ongoing BWF World Tour Finals in Bali on Friday.

Thailand’s Pornpawi Chochuwong, playing at Mangupura Hall-1, defeated the defending world champion 21-12, 19-21, 21-14 in a match that lasted one hour and 11 minutes. With this win, the Thai player is on top of Group A.

Chochuwong has already qualified for the knockouts along with PV Sindhu. In a dead rubber match, the Thailand player took an 11-6 lead in the first interval and closed the game 21-12 against the Indian.

In the second game, Sindhu gave Chochuwong an 11-6 lead. But the top seed made a comeback and levelled the game at 19-19. Sindhu then gathered the courage to force the decider by winning two straight points.

Earlier, Kidambi Srikanth had lost his third and final Group B game in men’s singles as he was defeated 21-19, 21-14 by Li Zi Jia in a game that lasted 37 minutes.

Meanwhile, India women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy ended their campaign in the BWF World Tour Finals with a consolation win over British pair of Chloe Burch and Lauren Smith in a three-game clash on Friday.
