Combating COVID-19: Nepal Extends Lockdown Till May 18

Mumbai: Nepal on Wednesday decided to extend the nationwide coronovirus-induced lockdown to 10 more days by May 18.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at the residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at Baluwatar.

A minister told ANI, “Some measures to ease access during the lockout were also discussed at the meeting, but Prime Minister Oli took the decision given India’s situation and the low test rate.”

The High-Level Committee on Control and Prevention of COVID-19 Nepal also suggested the government to ease the lockdown by marking red, yellow and green areas in some places based on the number of cases.

On March 24, the lockdown was imposed for the first time. It was last extended on April 27, which ended on Thursday.

To date, Nepal has tested a total of 13,850 samples using the polymerase chain reaction method, of which 82 samples turned out to be positive. So far, Nepal has reported recovery of 22 cases, while 60 active cases are under surveillance and being isolated.
