Congress’ Adhir Apologise To Prez For ‘Rashtrapatni’ Remark, Calls It ‘Slip Of Tongue’

Mumbai: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday tendered a written apology to President Droupadi Murmu for referring to her as “Rashtrapatni”, amid a row over the remark in the Parliament.

“I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you [President] hold. I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same,” reads his letter.

There was a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Thursday after members of the BJP strongly opposed Chowdhury’s calling of President Murmu as ‘President’.

Chowdhury had defended himself saying that he never intended to insult the President and that his ‘President’ remarks were a ‘slippery of tongue’.

He also accused the BJP of making a “mountain out of a molehill”, and said he would apologise to President Murmu but not to “these pakhandis” (hypocrites).
The row continued on Friday and Parliament had to be adjourned till August 1.
