Coronavirus In India: 28 Confirmed Cases So Far , 3 Of Them In Kerala Have Been Cured

Mumbai: Following the reports that the Center is preparing a strategy to deal with the developing coronavirus virus situation in India, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday that so far 28 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country.

Out of 28 cases, three patients (from Kerala) have been recovered, the Health Minister said. Giving details of other cases, Harshvardhan said that a person’s test in Delhi was positive. When the people he contacted were traced, it was revealed that six members of his family, who were in Agra (Uttar Pradesh), went into an infection.

To manage the situation, the Union Minister announced that all international travellers will now be screened for coronavirus symptoms.

“Currently, we are conducting a universal screening of flights coming from 12 countries. But now we will conduct universal screening of all passengers coming from all international flights. Everyone will be a part of universal screening,” said Harshvardhan said.

Addressing a press conference, the Health Minister said: “As of yesterday, we have screened around 5.89 lakh passengers at airports, over 15,000 major and minor ports and over 10 lakh borders with Nepal. Till yesterday. About 27,000 were under community surveillance,” he added.

He said that the Center has urged all the hospitals in Delhi to develop good quality isolation wards so that more cases of coronavirus in the national capital are ready if suspected. He said that he held a meeting with Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain and corporation officials, and appealed to them to enhance the facilities of isolation wards in hospitals.

Out of a group of 23 Italian tourists, who arrived in India last month, 16 have tested positive for coronavirus. The Indian driver, who came n contact with the tourists, has also been tested positive, taking the total number of infected patients to 28.

Meanwhile, the World Bank has promised USD 12 billion in aid to developing countries dealing with the spread of coronavirus. The countries with the most losses outside China are South Korea, Iran and Italy.
