Cracker Thrown At BJP Leaders In Northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar

Mumbai: The Delhi BJP has lodged a police complaint about the crackers allegedly thrown at its leaders, including its chief Manoj Tiwari, during the party’s “Gandhi Sankalp Yatra” in Karawal Nagar here.

Tiwari termed the incident a “cowardly” act to disturb the BJP event.

“Gandhi Sankalp Yatra” was taken out on Friday from 10, Foota Road, Karawal Nagar West to Shani Bazar, Turkmirpur. Around 8 pm, when Tiwari and other leaders were addressing a gathering, someone allegedly threw firecrackers at them.

Tiwari said, “The cracker hit me and our former MLA Mohan Singh Bisht. I survived while Bisht’s hand was injured and the kurta was burnt.”

A complaint was filed late Friday night at Khajuri Khas police station by Anand Trivedi, media co-head of Delhi BJP.

“We have registered a case under section 285 (negligent conduct in relation to fire or combustible material) of the Indian Penal Code and are analyzing the CCTV footage,” a senior police officer said.

Trivedi said, “The cracker exploded with a sharp explosion, causing panic among the people. Our leaders survived, though Mohan Singh Bisht got hurt.”

Earlier, starting the “yatra”, Tiwari said that achieving independence for India and establishing a “Ram Rajya” was Mahatma Gandhi’s dream, which was being realized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On 2 October, the “Gandhi Sankalp Yatra” was flagged off by BJP President Amit Shah in Delhi on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

As part of the three-month program, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs, MLAs, other elected representatives and officials across the country will march in their respective areas, spread Gandhi’s message and remove single-use plastics from people.
