This will be Ravi Shastri’s third term with the senior national team as the World Cup-winning all-rounder had worked as the Team Director between 2014 and 2016 before being appointed as the head coach in 2017 following Anil Kumble’s departure.

Under Ravi Shastri, India won their first Test series in Australia earlier this year and lost opportunities to get England on the road to beat South Africa. Shastri’s side also became the first Indian team to win an ODI series in South Africa when they beat the Proteas 2–1 in 2018.

India, led by Shastri, also reached the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019. Despite coming up with major performances in the group stages, India was eliminated in the semi-finals of the quadrilateral tournament by New Zealand earlier this year.
