Death Toll Reaches 25 In Bihar, IMD Predicts More Rain On Monday

Mumbai: Death toll mounted to 25 as heavy to heavy rain hits Patna, most parts of the Bihar capital remained.
In Patna, it has been raining since morning, though the sky has been cloudy and IMD has forecast rain later in the day.

According to the state’s disaster management department, six people were reported dead from Gaya district, where five people were buried alive while a wall collapsed, while another drowned in the river, which was in spate due to incessant rains.

In addition, the police in the district adjoining Jehanabad confirmed the death of a three-year-old girl who was crushed to death by the wall of an old house, in a street where she was playing.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, whose own residence was affected by the deluge, was seen rolling around the city in a T-shirt and shorts and issuing instructions to the authorities.

The district administration has ordered the closure of all schools by 1 October as a preventive measure and warned of strict punishment for violators of the directive and “endangering the lives of teachers and students”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke to Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary PK Mishra on 21 September and urged him to take steps to check the water level in the Ganges, which had risen to dangerous levels then.

More than one lakh cusecs of water were later released through the flow of Farakka barrage.
