Demolition Drive In Delhi’s Jahangirpuri Stops After SC Steps In For 2nd Time

Mumbai: The anti-encroachment drive has been stopped in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, said Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, Delhi Police. This comes after the Supreme Court ordered that authorities must be directed to stop the demolition drive.

The police confirmed that bulldozing has been stopped in Jahangirpuri.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday launched an anti-encroachment drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.

Bulldozers entered the area and started destroying houses and shops. Soon after, the Supreme Court stayed the demolition drive in Jahangirpuri.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court had stayed the demolition drive. However, the demolition drive continued for about an hour and a half after that.

The matter will be heard again on Thursday. These developments come after communal clashes broke out in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday evening.
