Duo Held, 3 Crore Worth Loot Found On Them

Mumbai: The accused-Kishore Pawar alias Bunty (32) and Rahul Gurav (24)-had broken into 20 homes in Bandra, Khar, Juhu and Santacruz at night over the last three months while people in the house were around.

The police said they have seized 30 gold- and diamond-studded watches, over a dozen gold pens, diamond and gold jewellery, cellphones, digital cameras and cash. The police said they targeted buildings without security guards or those where repair work was on. They would enter homes by sliding over pipes or climbing scaffoldings.

As house break-in cases had been on the rise in these areas, the police examined footage from closed-circuit television cameras around buildings where the thefts had taken place, said deputy commissioner of police Paramjit Singh Dahiya. “While sifting through various images, we identified the two. One such image helped us get their history and whereabouts,” he said, adding that based on a tip-off, they were caught and the valuables recovered from their rented home at Madh.

The arrest of the two has helped solve 14 break-in cases that took place in Khar, four in Bandra and two in Juhu since May. They targeted flats of a businessman, said assistant commissioner of police D Bhargude. Assistant police inspector Pandurang Lonkar said that the accused had been arrested earlier for more than 50 break-in cases in which they were involved.
