Ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, 7 Others Booked For Extortion

Mumbai: A case of extortion has been registered against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh at the Marine Drive Police Station, Mumbai Police said.

An FIR of extortion has been filed by Mumbai Police against former Mumbai police commissioner and current Maharashtra DG Home Guard Param Bir Singh. Singh is accused of extortion. Along with Singh, Mumbai police’s DCP Akbar Pathan is also booked by Mumbai police.

The complainant (a civilian), Shyam Sundar Radhe Sham Agrawal, approached Mumbai Police and said that Parambir Singh, DCP Akbar Pathan and others have booked him for fake offences. And later all the accused demanded Rs 15 crore from the complainant to take back those offences.

The complainant has stated that this was going on since 2016. The FIR is against eight people. Six are police officers and 02 are civilians. Two civilians have been arrested. Apart from Param Bir Singh and DCP Pathan, police officers like Shrikant Shinde, Asha Korke, Nandkumar Gopal and Sanjay Patil have also been booked.

Civilians Sanjay Punamia and Sunil Jain are arrested.

The accused are booked under IPC 387- Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion, IPC 388- Extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life, etc, IPC 389- Putting person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion, IPC 403- Dishonest misappropriation of property, IPC 409- Criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent, IPC 420- Cheating, IPC – 423 Dishonest or fraudulent execution of the deed of transfer con­taining false statement of consideration, IPC 464- Making a false document, IPC 465- Punishment for forgery.
