Fight Between Left, Right Shouldn’t Take Place On University Campuses, Says Ramdas Athawale

Mumbai: Following the recent attack took place in JNU campus in Delhi Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday condemned the violence saying that fighting between left and right wings should not take place on the campuses of educational institutions.

ANI news agency quoted Athawale saying, “I condemn the violence in JNU. The incident should be investigated by the police … People have the right to support whichever party they want. However, this fight between the left and right wings should not take place in the universities.”

Athawale said, “JNU has been witnessing repeated attempts of violence for many years. It is a very big educational centre. The number of left students is also high in university. There are always left-fuelled protests on the campus.”

Athawale said, “JNU has been witnessing repeated attempts of violence for many years. It is a very big educational centre. The number of leftist students is also high in university.”

“Once, pro-Pakistan slogans were chanted on campus. When Afzal Guru was hanged, a rally was organized against him on campus,” he said.

Athawale, who is the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment (MoS), also said that the decision to increase the fee by the JNU administration was not correct.

“The central government has nothing to do with the fee hike in the university. The JNU administration is an independent body. However, I do not think the decision to increase the fees was correct,” he said.

His remarks came after a major clash on Sunday at the JNU campus when a masked mob entered Varsity and attacked the students, injuring more than 30 students and taking them to the AIIMS Trauma Center.
