Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Introduces Drops Briefcase Tradition Goes With Swadeshi ‘Bahi Khata’

Mumbai: It’s a big day for India and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as Budget 2019 will be tabled by the minister.

Meanwhile, it has been noticed that Sitharaman decided to go with the swadeshi ‘bahi khata’ instead of the traditional budget briefcase.

Sitharaman blew the book, which is a type of bookkeeping, wrapped in red cloth, in which there is a copy of the budget speech and other related papers outside the northern block. Among them were MOS Finance Anurag Thakur, Finance Secretary SC Garg, and Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy Subramanian.

The tradition of presenting with the briefcase before the budget speech began on November 26, 1947, with the first budget of independent India presented by the then finance minister RK Shanmukham Chetty.

Earlier, during the customary pudding ceremony that took place before the commencement of the budget session, Sitharaman started the tendency to remove it rather than cutting the red ribbon.

As per the Union Minister, cutting the ribbon on an important occasion is not considered auspicious.

Due to this belief, Sitharaman disclosed the traditional red ribbon and after that Thakur and Garg did the same. The budget, which will be introduced in the Lok Sabha today, is expected that in the goal of fiscal efforts, expenditure on short-term slippage will be encouraged.
