Forgery Cases Of Passports And Visas

Mumbai: Recently the immigration officials have alerted the Mumbai Police Commissioner regarding the spurt in the passport and visa forgery cases and requested him to take action against the questionable agents.

After a study of visa and forgery cases, the Police Commissioner, Sanjay Barve sent out a circular directing the airport and Sahar police stations to send the cases to the crime branch, unit VIII. The order was sent to curb forgery cases carried out by agents from different states and cities. The agents are majorly located in UP, Bihar and Northern parts of the country.

The immigration Department observed 116 visa forgery cases in the last six months.

On July 18, three days after the notice was circulated, immigration officials caught 7 people travelling from UP to UAE and from there to Libya during visa stamping. After being caught, the case was transferred to the crime branch within an hour. They were carrying two visas which raised suspicion.

The officer said immigration officials got suspicious as there is a travel ban to Libya from May 3, 2016.
