Habitual Offender Arrested In Rape, Murder Case

Mumbai: Telangana Police has arrested a habitual offender allegedly involved in the rape and murder of a woman in Medak district, PTI reported.

Police told PTI that the accused Arun Kumar (26) befriended a 30-year-old woman, whose husband had gone to jail in a certain case.

“Kumar gave her expensive gifts, took her to a shopping mall before being taken to a different place, where she said she had hidden stolen gold ornaments and money,” PTI quoted officials saying.

Once the two reached the spot, Kumar raped her, strangled her to death and threw the body into a water tank.

The incident took place on 5 December and the police found the body of the woman on 13 December.

Kumar was earlier involved in the murder of an auto driver and the theft of an autorickshaw in 2016 and tried to evade the police. He was also involved in a motorcycle theft case in 2017 and in the murder of a man in 2018, PTI report stated.

He served a three-year prison sentence and was released on bail. While appearing in court, he befriended Raju, a resident of Nizamabad and later spoke on the phone on 29 November.

Raju’s wife answered the phone and after learning from him that he was in jail in a bail case, Kumar began his friendship with the woman and later murdered her after sexually assaulting her, PTI further reported.

Kumar was detained on Wednesday when the police stopped him on suspicion and during interrogation he confessed to the crime.
