Hopefully A Hundred Is Around The Corner: Du Plessis On 96(64) vs LSG

Mumbai: RCB captain Faf Du Plessis, who scored 96(64) runs against LSG, said someone had to stabilise their innings after they lost two early wickets and he’s grateful that he could do that.

He added that he has scored a few fifty-plus scores now and “hopefully (a ton) is around the corner”. Also Read: The Bounce Was Unreal With The New Ball: Hazlewood On 4/25 vs LSG

In a post-match presentation, RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who was named ‘Player of the Match’, said: “Due to the nature of this ground, you do run a lot of 2s and towards the end, it can be tiring. I got a few 96, and a 97, so hopefully (a ton) is around the corner.”

“We needed someone to stabilize the innings and then go to the back end. Today, thankfully, I was able to do that. The important thing is that I am able to follow the blueprint of my batting. If you bowled slow into the wicket to the big boundary, it never felt like you had enough power to clear that boundary.”

It was a chase that never really came to fruition for Lucknow. They lost wickets off the new ball, Hazlewood was breathless and once the powerplay was not used, the pressure started building.

“I was tired but still hoping I could hit some at the end. At the start of the innings, it was a help for the bowlers and they put us in trouble but we found a way out. Our bowlers then stuck to the plans and when you do that on a ground like this, it’s tough for the batters,” he added.

Talking about the Indian Premier League points table, the South African said: “At the moment, a lot of teams at the top, and many in the middle, and when that happens, it’s always a scramble (for playoff spots). But that’s out of our control. We need to just work on our strengths and we actually can get better in a few things.”
