I Felt It Was Time To Take Him On: Uthappa On Smashing Maxwell For 18 Runs

He ended up scoring a 50-ball 88 as CSK posted the highest team score of the season, 216/4

Mumbai: CSK batter Robin Uthappa, who scored 88 runs off 50 balls against RCB, has said that when all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was bowling his third over in the game he felt it was time to take him on.

Playing against his former franchise, Uthappa propelled his innings to perfection and played some delightful shots across the park. With CSK facing some early setbacks, Uthappa was cautious in the early part of the innings. Also Read: It’s My 1st Ever Victory As Captain, I Dedicate It To My Wife: Jadeja On Win vs RCB

He ended up scoring a 50-ball 88 as CSK posted the highest team score of the season, 216/4.

While all the RCB bowlers struggled to contain Uthappa, part-time off-spinner Glenn Maxwell faced the toughest time against him. As the Australian all-rounder conceded just 10 runs in his first two overs, captain Faf du Plessis tasked him to bowl the 13th over of the innings despite several frontline bowlers being available.

The decision was not really fruitful as Uthappa hit three sixes in that over, cementing CSK’s hold on the competition. Notably, Shivam Dubey, who scored 96 off 45 balls, was Uthappa’s partner-offender in the game as the duo added 165 runs off 74 balls.

When asked about his attack, Uthappa said that Dubey had the responsibility of hitting the spinners while he demanded more strikes while the pacers were operating. However, the 36-year-old didn’t mind smashing Maxwell as the balls landed in his arc.

“When Maxwell came in to bowl his third over, I felt it was the time to take him on even though it was the bigger boundary. Off-spinner bowling, so I decided to take him on. When the spinners were bowling, I tried to feed him (Dube) as many strikes as possible, and when the pacers were back on, I told him to give me the strike back,” said Uthappa after the game.

Meanwhile, this was a much-needed win for CSK as they lost their first four fixtures. However, the defending champions still have a long way to go and they must identify a way to extend this steak.
