I Swear In Shivaji’s Name To Give Reservation To Marathas: Maha CM

Mumbai: While addressing a Dussehra rally, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said he belongs to the Maratha family and strongly favours reservation for Marathas. He claimed he knows the community’s “problems and sorrows”.

In a royal bind due to the Maratha community’s ever more complex reservation struggle, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde pledged on Tuesday to provide a quota for Marathas. He approached the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue on stage, folded his hands, and swore allegiance to the Maratha warrior king for added dramatic impact.

Speaking at a parallel Shiv Sena Dussehra rally at Azad Maidan, Shinde turned to criticising Uddhav Thackeray, his bitter rival, saying that he was dying to be chief minister since 2004 and that he had even asked NCP leader Sharad Pawar to speak up on his behalf during the formation of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government.
At the jam-packed event, Shinde’s main topics of discussion were Thackeray and the ongoing Maratha reservation movement. He declared, “I firmly support reservation for Marathas.”

“Being from a Maratha family, I am aware of the struggles and grief experienced by the community. A committee headed by Justice Sandeep Shinde has been established to handle the Maratha reservation, and it is operational 24/7. The Supreme Court has admitted a curative petition on the issue. We will not deprive anyone of reservation. I swear in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that I will give reservation to Marathas.”

The Chief Minister also urged Maratha community members not to take extreme measures, such as taking their own lives in support of the cause. Citing Devendra Fadnavis’s successful implementation of reservation policies as chief minister, he claimed the government’s ruling remained enforceable despite a challenge in the Bombay High Court, but not in the Supreme Court. He pleaded with Marathas not to fall for those who, he claimed, were attempting to incite unrest in the state by setting one group against another.

Without mentioning names, Shinde attacked Uddhav Thackeray, who was hosting his Sena rally in the customary Shivaji Park location, using the Dusshera rally.

Shinde remarked, “I could have held my rally in Shivaji Park as well.” “However, as the CM, I want to maintain peace.”

After the separation, the Shivaji Park location has been a point of concern for the two Senas.

Shinde also demonstrated to his supporters his versatility by saying he would be just as comfortable overseeing the city’s drain cleaning as he was hosting the G20 in Mumbai.

“I visited the impoverished workers’ colonies to observe the state of sanitation while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos,” the CM stated.
