Mumbai: New Zealand finally gets the winnings to taste as they comfortably defeated the visitors India with 4 wickets remaining in the hand in 1st ODI of 3 matches of ODI series and take lead by 1-0.

Winning the toss Kiwis invited the blue army to bat first and both debutants Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw failed to score much but it was Shreyas Iyer (109) and KL Rahul (89) who continued their form and helped India to set off the huge total of 347 runs.

In the absence of Kane Williamson, senior New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor once again stepped up to the occasion and scored a memorable century against Virat Kohli-led India in the 1st ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Taylor remained unbeaten on 109 off 84 balls and was also involved in a crucial 130-run stand for the fourth wicket with stand-in captain Tom Latham (69 off 48).

Taylor brought all his experience to the table and guided the hosts to a 4-wicket win against the Men in Blue. It was a brilliant run-chase by New Zealand after losing the recently concluded T20I series 0-5.

Meanwhile, Kiwis record their highest successful run chase in ODI cricket against India. New Zealand’s previous highest successful run chase against India had come on October 22, 2017, when they chased down 281 runs in Mumbai. India’s 347/4 today is their highest ODI total in New Zealand.
