India Beat Spain 3-0 In Men’s Hockey After Suffering Their Worst Olympic Defeat

Mumbai: India defeated Spain 3-0 in men’s hockey at Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday to go second on the Pool A points table.

India’s victory comes after their worst-ever Olympic defeat (1-7) at the hands of Australia.

Simranjit Singh’s goal in the first quarter helped India take the lead and the Manpreet Singh-led side’s initial nerves were a bit volatile.

Soon after, Rupinder Pal Singh also scored a goal at the end of the first quarter to give India a 2-0 lead. No goals were scored in the second and third quarters and India took a 2-0 lead.

Spain, however, looked good making attacking moves, and India had an uphill task in stopping them. In the fourth quarter, Rupinder scored another goal as he successfully converted from a penalty corner, and hence India took a 3-0 lead.

In the end, India managed to hold on and walked away with a win. Before the match against Spain, India had defeated New Zealand but lost to Australia.
