India Women’s Hockey Team Thrash New Zealand 3-0 In Final Match Of Tour
Mumbai: India women’s Hockey team defeat New Zealand by 3-0 win over the hosts to end their tour on a high here on Wednesday.
India’s Navneet Kaur scored the opening goal of the match in the 45th minute. Shortly thereafter, the young Sharmila doubled the lead when he hit a powerful shot to the New Zealand goalkeeper in the 54th minute.
India continued their attacking mindset in the match and Navneet scored another goal in the 58th minute to make the score 3–0.
India’s head coach Sjoerd Marijne said the tour provided him with a good sense of where he needed to improve.
“The team ensured a good end of the tour and I am happy that we scored three goals against New Zealand in the last match. The tour gave us a good idea of where we need to improve and one of the things is the pace. Make a game out of. ” Now we do, “India” Hockey India official website quoted Marijen as saying.
India competed in five matches during the tour and won 4–0 in a big way against the New Zealand development team in the first match. After starting the tour well, India suffered two consecutive defeats at the hands of the New Zealand national team. However, the visitors returned victorious, registering a 1-0 win over Great Britain in their previous match.
The team will return to India on February 7.
