Mumbai: The Indian Railways decided to restart 15 passenger trains after two months of lockdown amidst the wake of Covid-19, said the Railway Ministry on Sunday.

The resumption comes after India begins to uplift some relaxations from lockdown and move towards the gradual opening of the country. The booking of train tickets will be carried out online at the IRCTC website on 11th May starting at 4 pm.

Initially, these special trains will be run from New Delhi connecting Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi.

Only the passengers with genuine confirmed tickets will be permitted to board on trains with considerable rules and regulations laid by the Ministry.

Although, face masks will be made mandatory and the passengers to be screened before the departure and detained if found to be symptomatic. The passengers, therefore, need to arrive at the station an hour prior to the departure for the screening process, says the press release issued by the Government of India.

However, India shows no symptoms of revival as the Covid-19 figures surge to 62,939 cases including 19,358 recoveries and 2,109 fatalities.
