Indian Shuttler Sourabh Verma Jumped To Career Best Ranking Of 29

Mumbai: After winning the silver medal at Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, Indian Shuttler Sourabh Verma on Tuesday jumped to career-best ranking in the latest released men’s singles BWF rankings. Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma on Tuesday achieved a career-best ranking of world no.29 in the latest BWF ranking.

Sourabh Verma from Madhya Pradesh, who had reached world no.30 in 2012, had a decent season in which he claimed two BWF Super 100 titles at Hyderabad and Vietnam and also won the Slovenia International series in May.

On Sunday, Verma bagged silver after losing to three-time national champion Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-Wei in straight games 15-21, 17 -21 in the final of Syed Modi International Badminton Championships.

But, due to his progress to the summit clash saw him jump seven places and grab the 29th spot.

India thus became the only country to have six shuttlers inside the top 30. China is next best with five players inside the top 30.

Among others, young woman shuttler Ashmita Chaliha, who had won the Tata Open India International Challenge and Dubai International Challenge last year, also made a massive jump of 18 places to break into the top 100.

The 20-year-old from Guwahati had reached the pre-quarterfinals at Lucknow last week in her only appearance in a Super 300 tournament.

She had earlier entered semifinals of White Nights International Challenge in July this year.

PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal remained unmoved in the BWF rankings. Nehwal ranks 6th while Nehwal holds 10th position.

Sai Praneeth and Kidambi Srikanth who lost in quarter and second round last week remained static on the 11th and 12th spot respectively.
