INX Media Case: Bail Granted To Senior Congress Leader P Chidambaram

Mumbai: INX Media’s case, bail granted to the former finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram in a case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Further, the apex court held that P. Chidambaram could be released, provided he is not arrested in any other case, and on a private bond of Rs L lakh. “He has to make himself available for questioning,” the court said.

Notably, Chidambaram is currently in the custody of Enforcement Directorate (ED) till October 24 in the same case.

A bench headed by Justice R Banumati made it clear that Chidambaram would not leave the country without the prior permission of the court and made himself available for questioning when called by the investigating agency.

This comes as the Congress leader moves to the apex court, filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) days after the High Court dismisses his bail plea that he may influence the witnesses in the case.

The case in INX Media relates to an FIR lodged by the investigating agency for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), an approval given to INX Media in 2007 by Chidambaram for Rs 305 crore while he was the Finance Minister.
