IPL 2021: KKR’s Varun, Sandeep Test Positive For COVID-19 KKR vs RCB Match Postponed

Mumbai: The match has been postponed between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) due to concerns over Covid-related concerns at the KKR camp. Two players in the KKR camp have said that they have tested positive for COVID-19.

This is the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 that a match is being postponed, while some players, as well as support staff, have also contracted the virus before. The match was to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday (3 May).

Speaking to ANI, a BCCI official confirmed that there are cases in the KKR camp and the RCB camp isn’t too keen to take the field against them. “Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive and that made the RCB camp wary of the situation. The game is set to be postponed,” the official said.

Virat Kohli-led RCB has made a strong start in IPL 2021 as the team has won five out of seven matches.

On the other hand, KKR has been struggled to get going in the 14th edition and are ranked second from the bottom in the points table with two wins from seven matches.

India registered a slight dip in COVID-19 cases as it registered 3,68,147 new coronavirus infections and 3,417 related deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the union health ministry on Monday morning. With this, the cumulative count of the cases has gone up to 1,99,25,604.
