Jaishankar Meets Iranian President, Discusses Progress Of India-Tehran Bilateral Relations

Mumbai: In a recent development, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday and briefed him on the 19th Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) held a day earlier.

“Thank President Dr. @HassanRouhani for so graciously receiving me today. Apprised him of the outcomes of the Joint Commission and progress in our bilateral ties,” Jaishankar tweeted.

The Foreign Minister is on a two-day visit to Iran. On Sunday, Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Jawad Zarif chaired the JCM here and reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and agreed to expedite work on the Chabahar project.

Jaishankar also met Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and discussed regional security and bilateral relations.

Simultaneously, he held a meeting with Mohammad Aslam, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and assessed progress on connectivity projects.

In 2018, Iran and India signed a US $ 85 million agreement to develop Iran “> Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran. Chabahar Port, which provided an alternative route for trade between India and Afghanistan Is located in the Gulf.
