Jyothi Yarraji Breaks National Record In 60m Hurdles Event

Mumbai: Jyothi Yarraji broke her national record in the 60m hurdles event to win the gold medal for India at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, Iran.

The 24-year-old clocked 8.12 seconds in the 60m hurdles final, surpassing her previous national record of 8.13 seconds, set at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships last year in Astana, Kazakhstan.

India now has more gold medals than it did the previous year when Tajinderpal Singh Toor was the only gold medallist in the nation.

Jyothi beat Asuka Terada of Japan, who recorded an 8.21-second heat time, by exceeding her own mark of 8.22 seconds. With 8.26 seconds, Hong Kong’s Lui Lai Yiu finished in third position.

The 24-year-old Indian, who took home the championship in Bangkok last year, is currently the 100-meter hurdles Asian Outdoor Champion. After being initially disqualified, she returned with a silver medal from the Asian Games in Hangzhou in the 100m hurdles.
