Lionel Messi Banned From International Football For Three Months

Mumbai: Lionel Messi was suspended from international football for three months because of his comments made at Copa America 2019. He accused the Copa America of corruption, saying the match was fixed so that Brazil- the host country could win.

The Argentine Player is banned for three months and is also charged with a fine of $50,000 for his comments on Argentina’s 2-1 win against Chile in the third place playoff in the tournament in July. Due to this ban, Messi will not be able to play Argentina’s match against Chile and Mexico. The ban also prohibits the player for playing two games against Germany in October.

He and Argentina still have a chance to appeal the decision and try to terminate the ban so that he could participate in the games coming up in future. But to fans dismay neither had approached or made comments on CONMEBALL’s decision.

Messi also avoided the medal ceremony as a sign of protest and later commented that “Argentina shouldn’t become a part of this,” when the Argentina player alleged the Copa America of staging the game for Brazil, the administration called his comments as baseless.

When asked of being fear of being suspended he replied, “The truth needed to be told”. Though Messi later sent an apology to CONMEBALL for his statements. The 32-year-old is also fined with $1,500 fine and a ban that stops him from playing the first match of South American World Cup because of his Copa America Red card.
