Mumbai: The Indian Railways have planned to increase the speed of trains including suburban services of Mumbai. The local trains which currently run at an average speed of 80-100 kmph will now run at an average speed of 110 kmph.

Rajesh Agarwal, member of Railway Board said, “After increasing the speed of local trains, there would be an increase in the number of train services by both Central and Western Railway. The first semi-AC local train having six AC coaches and other six Non-AC coaches is expected by September 2019.

At the national level, Railways will also run its first outstation train, managed by private operators, between Delhi and Lucknow in the month of September, confirmed Chairman of Railway Board VK Yadav. The fare structure for these trains will be fixed by the Indian Rail Catering Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC).

Yadav said, “Studies are underway regarding how the production of the units can be given to private companies. The model will be operated between New Delhi and Lucknow railway station from September 2019. However, it will be finalized only after discussions with our stakeholders, who are our 13 lakh employees.”
