Lockdown In Delhi From 10 pm Tonight Till 5 am On April 26 Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

Mumbai: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal today announced that a lockdown will be imposed in the national capital from 10 pm tonight till 5 am on April 26.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the city after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. The 6-day lockdown will come into effect from 10 pm today and will stay in place till  5 am April 26 (next Monday). Essential services will be permitted during the period.

New restrictions to reduce the spread of the virus have come at a time when there is a severe shortage of oxygen and hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in the national capital.

The Chief Minister said in a press conference on Monday that the number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients in the national capital is rapidly decreasing, and there is a severe shortage of oxygen for COVID-19 patients.

The Chief Minister further said that essential services, food services, medical services will be exempted. Weddings can only be held with a crowd of 50 guests and separate passes will be issued for the same. A detailed order will be issued shortly.

The chief minister also urged migrant workers to not leave the city. He said, “I request you to not leave the national capital. The lockdown is only for a short period of 6 days. Don’t go… We’ll ensure that you don’t face problems.”

Kejriwal concluded the press conference saying: “In the next 6 days, we will make arrangements for more beds in Delhi. We thank the Central government for helping us. The lockdown period will be used to arrange oxygen, medicine. I request everyone to follow the guidelines.”

The chief minister also shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to reserve oxygen-supported beds in central government hospitals for COVID patients amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases.
