Most Of India’s Olympic-Bound Shooters Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Mumbai: Members of the Indian Tokyo 2021 shooting squad, especially the pistol and rifle team based in Croatia, were vaccinated for COVID-19 in the capital Zagreb on Wednesday.

“The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) would like to thank the Indian Embassy in Zagreb and the Croatian Ministry of Health for their prompt and proactive assistance with the programme,” NRAI said in an official statement.

A total of 23 members, including athletes, coaches and support staff, were vaccinated. While 18 received the second dose of the vaccine, five received the first dose.

The 13 rifle and pistol shooters are currently on a training-cum-competition tour of Croatia, where they will take part in the ISSF World Cup later this month in Osijek from June 22.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and NRAI are in touch with the Indian Embassy in Rome for the vaccination of two skeet shooters Mairaj Khan and Angad Bajwa, who are training in Italy.

Mairaj has to be administered his first dose while Angad has his second shot remaining. The team in Zagreb is preparing for the final stage of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun, scheduled to begin in Osijek, Croatia from June 20, 2021. They will then directly move to Tokyo for the XXXII Olympiad.
