Nationwide Emergency Declared By Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena

Mumbai: News Agency Reuters reported that Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena announced the nationwide emergency from midnight on Monday.

Meanwhile, ANI told that Indian Coast Guard was also on high alert on the seafront with Sri Lanka. To prevent any attempt by suicide bomber criminals to escape from the island nation, ships and marine surveillance aircraft Dornier were deployed on the maritime border.

The number of people killed in the blasts has increased to 290. On Easter Sunday there were eight powerful explosions, including suicide attacks, churches and luxury hotels. More than 500 people were reported injured According to the ANI, at least 24 suspects have been arrested so far.

The attacks on Sunday were performed in the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Köchiched in Colombo, St. Sebastian Church of Negombo, The Zion Church of Batiacakola and Kingsbury Hotel, Shangri-la and Cinnamon Grand.

According to a news agency Xinhua report, in a special message read on local channels, President Sirisena had urged the people to stay calm and cooperate with officers in investigating the blasts. He said, “I am stunned and am sad about this situation. The investigation has been initiated to investigate what is the conspiracy behind these heinous acts. Please calm down and do not be fooled by rumours, “he said.
