Assam has been kept out of this process

During Assam, NRC people had to prove their ancestry from 1971, so while asked about documents needed in NPR, the minister said that there will be no need of documents, no forms for NPR, people will just have to self-certify themselves through a mobile app.

There is resentment amongst the political parties regarding NRC, so to put an end on this Javdekar said that “NPR has nothing to do with NRC. It was a good move, first started in 2010 by the UPA government. We are just carrying it forward. The NRC was not mentioned in the cabinet meeting.”

As the decennial census is to be carried in two phases, first House listing and housing census and second Population Enumeration. NPR will be carried out along with the first phase.

States as West Bengal, Kerala and Rajasthan have declined to carry out NPR. They have said they won’t facilitate NPR in preparation of NRC whereas Assam has been kept out of this process.
