Not Possible To Start IPL By April 15: Ex-IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla

Mumbai: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla on Thursday cited the current situation in the country amid a coronovirus epidemic, saying that it is impossible to start the 13th edition of the IPL after 15 April.

The T20 tournament, which was scheduled to begin on March 29, was suspended till April 15 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I haven’t seen any preparation, our priority is to fight coronovirus and save people. See that it will all depend on the government what decision they will take. We will go with the decision of the government. We are hearing that the lockdown may escalate in this situation if you think the IPL may be held by April 15, then it does not seem possible, ”said Shukla to ANI.

Asked if foreign players will participate in the IPL, Shukla said that in the current situation no match is possible and also the travel of foreigners in the country is restricted.

On 11 March, the central government suspended all visas to India until 15 April as part of measures to prevent the spread of novel coronaviruses.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that on Thursday the total number of positive cases of coronovirus in India rose to 5,865, with 591 fresh COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The total cases include 5,218 active cases, 478 cured, discharged and migrated cases and 169 deaths.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), one lakh thirty thousand samples of coronovirus have been tested so far.
